Thanksgiving Pictures

I was really sorry that I didn't get more pictures on Thanksgiving Day, but I was having such a good time I forgot to take more.  I really enjoyed having the family together.

A little metal detecting since the rain

Since the rain we had last week I've been able to get out and do a little metal detecting.  I went one day with Brian, one day with Mark and a couple of days by myself. I haven't found much worth mentioning, but I'll mention them anyway.  I found about $5 total in change, of that, 2 coins were wheat pennies, a '44 and '52.  I found a little silver charm that either fell off a necklace or bracelet.  It was a moon and stars design a little smaller than a dime. That's been about it.  Brian and I detected at St Matthias field and Algonquin Park, and Mark and I detected at Chance School and Rubel Park.  It's been fun and I'm glad we've finally had some rain so I can get out.  More rain is expected tonight, but with Thanksgiving coming up I don't think I'll be getting out for a few days.

A wet day at Iroquois GC

It was a cold, damp morning at Iroquois GC when we started out today, but after about 8 holes the drizzle and light rain came to a stop.  It did get a little colder, though.  I played terrible.  Mostly my putting.  I can't make any putts now.  I shot a 46 - 42 = 88.  The rest of my game wasn't that bad, but the putting really drags me down.  I even made some pretty good chips today, but couldn't convert the short putts.  The only consolation is that it will raise my handicap, which at Iroquois GC is down to an '8'.  So my 88 today netted me an 80!  The highest net round of the day in our group. We played two 'fivesomes' today, because we had ten people show up and nobody else was on the course.  Even playing bad and playing in bad weather, it was fun.  I enjoyed the round.  I'm sure my putting will return in time.  This was round 69 for the year.

Jillian likes to jump into leaf piles

Jillian wanted to jump in a pile of leaves yesterday when she was here.  So, I raked up a pile in the back yard for her.  She didn't want to just 'jump in'. "Give me an obstacle course". "OK Jill, run around the tree, down the hill, up the hill and under the swing, then jump in".  Jill: "How many times around the tree". "Just once, Jill". "One, two, three Go!" Away she went, around the tree, down the hill, up the hill, under the swing. Cautioned ahead of time by Mimi to not bump her head.  Then into the pile of leaves!  What a thrill!  Then she had to bury Grampy.  I'm under there somewhere in the top picture. Then Grampy and Mimi had to run an obstacle course she made up. No Jill, we can't go under the swing.  In the bottom picture she was throwing leaves into the air.  Lot's of fun to be had at Grampy's and Mimi's!

The Monster Tree is not so big anymore!

They'd had a good start on the tree before I got the first picture, but the top was still there.  By the 2 pictures you can see how much LG&E took off and how much they left for the tree company.  The tree's not nearly as tall, but there's a lot of wood left standing.  That tree trunk is pretty big!  Enlarge the picture of the tree that still has the top and you can see not only the guy in the basket, but the other guy in the top of the tree. When you compare the branches to those guys, even what looks like small branches are pretty big!

Round 68 for the year, Golf at Iroquois on a Thursday.

Played my usual Thursday golf at Iroquois GC today.  I shot a 43 - 39 = 82.  I really hit the ball well today but my putting was off.  If I had been putting as well today as a couple of weeks ago it could have shot around a 75.  It was really hard to figure the greens out today.  They'd had sand spread on them, but were really fast.  I three putted several greens after my first putt went about 10-15 feet past the hole!  And, even though it was Veterans Day, they still wouldn't give me very long putts.  I didn't win low man and our team didn't win low team.  So, another day, no winnings.  Great day to play golf, though.  I mean, you just can't get any better golf days than sunny, light breeze, and 76 degrees!  I believe this will be the warmest golf day I will have until next summer. The weather will be turning colder starting this weekend, and I don't think this 70 degree weather will return.

INDIAN SUMMER GOLF

What a beautiful Indian Summer Day.  Played my usual Tuesday golf at Shawnee GC today.  Didn't play well at all.  Shot a 45 - 43 88.  I have been shooting in the low 80's and not pleased, so this 88 I'm really not happy with.  I had been putting well.  But, the past couple of rounds I felt good over the putts, but they just wouldn't fall.  Today, I didn't feel good over the putts, and they didn't fall.  Maybe it'll come back.  I do need to raise my handicap a little.  I've played really well the past couple of months and my handicap has gotten down to where I can't win any money.  I never throw off on purpose, but I guess the laws of average catch up with you sooner or later.  I guess I should have known when I '4 putted' from just off the front of the first green it was going to be a bad day.  Oh well, walked 18 and had a good time.  This was round 67 for the year.

Foreground LtoR   Connie and Jim Pearl, Kathy and Jerry Blandford

It was a fun 2 days.  I got to see many friends, some of which I handn't seen for many years.  Bill Ralston had a bunch of pictures from the 'Old Days' which were fun to look over.  It was amazing how little that people change over a 50 year span.  Sure, most of us were a little heavier....but after talking a little while you could tell that each person seemed just as they were 50 years ago.  After looking through the pictures I realized I missed a few people. I missed getting a picture of Bob and Linda Wallace.  I'm sorry for that. And, to get a picture of my own brother, Joe, at the dinner last night. But, I do have one of Joe Tabler and Bob Wallace in the golf team pictures. But, I missed Linda Wallace all together.. Sorry Linda.
Thanks to all those who made the events.  It was fun.  Sorry to have missed those few who couldn't make it.
There were rumors circulating about doing this again in 10 years.  Maybe in 10 years I'll just send this as an email and tell everyone we did it....nobody would remember anyway!

Well now, we're getting some of the tree gone.....

L. G. & E. has been here since about 8:30 this morning "topping" out the tree that overhangs the driveway.  Most of the branches they have removed have been dropped in our yard, so a whole lot of the tree was hanging over our yard and cars.  Once they finish, I don't think it will take long for the tree removal company to take the rest of the tree down.

Golf at Iroquois GC.....Round 66 for the year

Well, I didn't shoot another 77 today, but I didn't play bad.  I shot a 40 - 42 = 82.  My 12 handicap netted me a 70, one under par.  That was the lowest score in my foursome.  However, it was not the low score of the day and our team didn't win low team.  So, no money today.  However, I was pleased with an 82 on a cold, windy day. I left a lot of putts short today, which I haven't been doing lately.  I putted well, and the putts I left short were right in the heart of the cup.  So, a little more aggressive on the putts and I'm maybe breaking 80.  I've had a cold the past few days and it felt good to get out and walk 18.  I almost rode a cart today because I've been feeling bad, but decided to walk and see how it went.  No problems.
