View from the White Tees at Iroquois GC

I played from the white tees at Iroquois GC today. Bobby Flood wouldn't let me move up to the yellow 'Senior' Tees. Also, on the first tee we agreed he was to get 3 strokes each side, playing $1 Nassau. Well, I beat him by 11 strokes on the front. So, as his usual custom, he wanted me to adjust on the back nine. I gave him 6 strokes on the back side. I only beat him by 2 strokes on the back side, so I won the front nine, he won the back nine, but I won the 18. So, I won $1 from Bobby Flood. Sweet Victory! I shot, remember, this was from the white tees, 40 - 42 = 82.
Maybe, just maybe, my game might be coming around.
ADDENDUM: I've mentioned before that Bobby Flood is the fastest golfer I've ever played golf with. Well, we started at 6:45 this morning and finished at 10:00. That's 3 hours and 15 minutes, but we waited on almost every shot for the group in front of us. The 4 young fellows behind us were over 4 holes behind us when we finished.

Weissinger Hills GC, Round 19 for the Year

Just can't seem to get into the groove this year. I feel like I'm very close, but just can't keep those bad shots out of the game. I shot a 42 - 46 = 88 today. The 42 wasn't so bad, but the 46 really stunk. I just give away so many strokes. But, I did win 6 of the 10 skins, the last 8 going unclaimed. And I did win $1 from Greg Lynn. I beat him the front side, he beat me the back, and I beat him for the 18.
I'll have another chance tomorrow. Bobby Flood just called me and I'm playing Iroquois GC tomorrow at 6:50. I know Bobby and I will have a bet. Don't know how many strokes I'll have to give him, but I'll let you know how it comes out.

Golf at Iroquois GC Round 18 for the Year

I played Iroquois GC today. I decided to ride a cart today. This 90 degree weather this early in the year is just a little much. I didn't play well on the front nine, but played better on the back. I shot a 45 - 40 = 85. The 40 on the back was with a double bogey on 17. I'm still 3 putting greens. I can't seem to keep from it. I just can't get my first putt close to the hole. Usually I leave it short. I mean, way short. I just don't have the feel I need when I'm standing over that 40 foot putt.
Later in the year, walking in 90 degree weather will be tolerable. Just not this early. My body is not used to it. The back nine only had one water jug out, and it was on the 16th tee. I know if I'd have been walking I would have been close to collapse. In the group in front of us, which was one of our groups (we had 3 groups), They made one of the guys quit after the 16 hole because they were afraid he was going to have a heat stroke. They gave him a bogey and par for the last two holes.
I think my game is coming around. I'll find out Saturday when I play Weissinger Hills GC. I'll give Greg Lynn 2 strokes a side. If I win his money, I'M BACK!

Round 17 and the Heat is On......

I played round 17 today and walked. It's just to hot for this early in the year. My body is not used to it. I like to post a picture with my blog posts, this time I googled 'Hot Golfer'. This is what I got.
Yep, that's one hot golfer.
It was a real struggle to finish 18 today. I didn't play well and seemed to get a lot of bad breaks, too. I shot a 47 - 46 = 93. Any trouble I got in, the golf gods seemed to make sure it turned out for the worst. If I hit a tree, it would bounce straight back and stay behing the tree. I hit one bunker. It plugged on the lip of the bunker and you could see just a little bit of the ball. I knew from the first hole it was going to be one of those rounds, so I figured "at least it'll fatten up my handicap".

ICELAND COIN

...............I found this 5 Auror Iceland Coin today while metal detecting in a little park in Germantown. I thought it was a game token until I cleaned it off. I had to google it. I had no idea what Konungar Islands was. Depending on the condition, it's worth from $1 to $25. It's a neat coin that I'm sure Mark will enjoy adding to his collection someday.

And the Money Keeps Rolling In....

Well, I played round 16 for the year today at Iroquois GC, and shot another 89. Same as Tuesday at Shawnee, 46 - 43 - 89. they gave me $10 today that I won Tuesday. It must have been for my 43 on the back nine. It wasn't a very good score, but it must have been good enough to win. I didn't ask any questions. I know I didn't win any money today. Our team lost by .33 strokes. That's 1/3 of a stroke! If I'd have just made that one putt!My game right now is just inconsistant. I topped a few 3-woods today, managed to 3 putt a few greens, and lost a couple of drives to the right. But, I hit a lot of good shots to keep my score respectable. I knew I had to par the 18th hole to break 90, and I did. So I finished on a good note.

I'm back in the saddle again.....

I played round 15 for the year today after being off for almost 4 weeks! My back felt great! No problems at all. I didn't play very well, but I expected to very inconsistant after not playing for so long. I know I played a scramble, but I've always thought that scrambles are the very worst thing for your golf game.
So, I played Shawnee GC today and shot a 46 - 43 + 89. Pretty bad considering that's the last place I played 4 weeks ago and shot an 80. By the way, that 80 I shot won me $20 which I just got today.
I got a call from the Doctor while I was gone and called them back when I got home. They took X-rays yesterday and called to give me the results of them. It seems I have a lot of Arthritis back there, which I already knew, but also, the pain in my back has been caused by the passage the nerves run through is becoming restricted and will most probably require surgery in the future. That's not good. I thought my pain might be caused by nerves because at times it wouldn't hurt at all, and other times I'd have extreme pain. Strained muscles wouldn't act that way. They'd be sore and eventually get to feeling better, with less and less pain.
So, anyway, I'm back playing golf now, and I think I can get my game back into the low 80's pretty fast now. I missed a lot of very makeable par putts today.

Win big money on the Preakness - Bet with Bob!

I thought I'd give my readers a sure fire money winner. As faithful readers, you deserve it. So, without further ado, my preakness picks:
First: Paddy O'Prado
Second: Lookin at Lucky
Third: Super Saver
Fourth: Jackson Bend
As you can see, I went with Derby horses. I like Paddy O'Prado to be just off the lead, roaring to the lead at the head of the stretch and holding off Lookin at Lucky, but just barely. Super Saver will be several lengths back and a half length in front of Jackson Bend. *These picks are guaranteed!
My picture for this post is my brass racehorse I bought at a yard sale today for 50 cents. I couldn't pass it up. It looks good on my desk.
*Guarantee expires May 14, 2010 at midnight.

METAL DETECTING AGAIN!!!!!

I metal detected today for the first time in over 3 weeks! My back is still bothering me, so I thought I'd try it today and see how it went. Well, no problem with the back and sitting here now my back feels better than it has for 2 weeks. I'll see how it feels later tonight when it has a chance to stiffen up. I should've know it would feel better, I called and got a Doctor's appointment for Monday afternoon.
I didn't find anything great, but I did find a 1939 penny. It's next to the key on the bottom. I found 13 pennies and 10 of them were pre-1982, which I call good pennies because they're made of copper. I metal detected in a little grass area next to St. Elizabeth on Burnett Street. I saw that little area the other day and thought it looked like a place I'd like to check out. When I went by there today, a man was cutting the grass and almost finished. Perfect timing. I had someone to ask permission from, and the grass was short.

A long time ago, in a Galaxy far, far away.....

Now, these pictures go back a long, long way. These are pictures of me and my brother Joe,, sister Jean, and cousins and double cousins. The picture on the left was taken on the cellar entrance to the store we lived next door to on Cedar Gove Court in Portland. The picture on the right was probably in my grandparents back yard in Portland. Alice and Judy were my cousins, children of my mothers brother, Jimmy Bibb. The others, Robert W., Sue, Thomas, and Melanie are my double cousins. Double Cousins? My Dad was their mothers brother, My Mother was their Dad's sister. Double Cousins.
In case you can't find me, the picture upper left I'm the one with a big circle on my shirt. The photo bottom right, I'm bottom left with the cool suspenders on.

Wide Body Trap? Or, just a trap.

For several years now, every so often, when walking down our hallway my pants have cought on the knobs on the front of this cabinet. I would complain that the cabinet is a trap and catches on my pants all the time and Mary Lynn would declare that "I don't know how in the world you do that, I never do." For a long time, I thought it was just me. Then, a while back, maybe Christmas, Mark Wagner was walking down the hallway and it caught him the same way. Boy, was I glad! It wasn't just me! Then, yesterday, Jit was walking down the hallway, and it caught him! It IS a trap! But just for men. Now why?
First of all, how does it happen? Well, as you can see by the picture, the steps stick out just a bit. When walking down the hallway, arms at your side, you tend to move away from the steps to keep from hitting your arms on them, etc., which automatically moves you towards the cabinet. Now, usually, the hallway is a little shadowy, and the dark knobs do not stand out visually. So, you brush against the cabinet. Presto! The knobs grab the back of the pants pocket and you're caught! Why just men? No, not because they're wider. Men normally wear looser clothes around the hips than women. Women's pockets, if they have them in their clothes, are made differently, cut at a more parallel line to the floor, and, women are usually shorter, so that the pocket falls below the cabinet knobs.
Now, this has been a very scientific study. Don't think I just made it up.
So now, all of you loyal blog readers, know why men snag their pants on the cabinet knobs in our hallway.

Gosh Bob, How did you win all that?

With all these nice prizes, you might think I won the tournament. Well, I don't need to win when I can get this many prizes for finishing 21st. We finished 1 over par, beating only 3 other teams. Mark, Kevin, Brian and David finished 6 under, about 10th place. It was a cold, windy day, and the holes played extra long for our team of short knockers. I thought we played very good to finish just 1 over par.
I won the bean bag game door prize at left. Bobby Flood won the bird feeder and bag of bird feed, but didn't have any use for it and gave it to me. Mary Lynn won a dozen golf balls, and Brian won a dozen balls and gave them to me. So, that's where all the prizes came from.
It was a fun tournament. Our team didn't have a long hitter, which really hurt us on a lot of those long par 4's into the wind. There was a lot of par 4's we couldn't reach in two shots. So, I was proud of our score, even though it doesn't sound like we played well. We did pretty good.

Bad Bob knows all, sees all

I've gazed into my crystal ball and checked out how Saturday's golf tournament will come out. I see the Hedges/Tabler team finishing -3. Yes, I know we get one throw each, and I see us birdie-ing those 4 plus one more. However, I see 2 bogies on the horizon. I see the Tabler/Garvey Team finishing 8 under, in 5th place. Don't get mad people, this is not my wish....just what the crystal ball says.
Now, having said that, the prediction does not take in to account what other weird twists J. R. decides to put in the tournament that I don't know about. I don't think he had the toilet seat last year, or the hockey sticks, or the one club hole. So, any of those, or new twists he puts in this year will void my prediction.

Odds double as news of Hedges/Tabler golf team trouble hits the network news

We've got Trouble my friends, Trouble I say. Right here in River City. Trouble with a capital 'T' and that rhymes with 'P' and that stands for 'Pain'. Bad Bob has a backache and will be unable to practice this week. I'm taking the week off to try to get my back ready for the weekend tournament. I'm sure I'll be able to play, it's just that I don't want to push my luck by playing this week.
And, Mary Lynn refuses to go to the driving range! She says she's ready. Hasn't hit a ball in 6 years, but feels ready to play. Looks like the Hedges from the north are going to have a lot to carry on their shoulders this weekend. I'm letting this out so that some unknown soul won't take any bets without knowing the whole story!

What Derby is all about......

Derby is my favorite day of the year. Everyone know that. You can have your Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, Etc., just give me my Derby Day. It's said that the Derby is the most exciting two minutes in sports. In my opinion, it's the most exciting two minutes in anything! We had a fun time at the Tabler house this Derby Day. A lot of people. No, a lot of FAMILY. It was great. It rained, so everyone had to stay inside. No corn hole, sitting on the deck, or sitting in the back yard. The rain made it crowded, but made it a much cozier. I looked around every so often, and I could always hear at least 8 people talking at the same time. I think everyone had a good time, even if they did lose a little money. Thanks for taking everybody's money, Uncle Mark! I think he won 7 jackpots! Jill heard ice cream mentioned early in the day, and it was around 5 o'clock when she finally asked Mimi, "When are we going to eat ice cream?". Well, she got some pretty quick.
And, at Derby time, as the gate for the Kentucky Derby opened, I had my two granddaughters sitting on my lap, watching the Run for the Roses. Life doesn't get any better than that.
