What do you think of these Caricatures? Who are they?

Golf at Iroquois GC on Thursday

I played Iroquois GC today, my 57th round of the year.  I shot a 43 - 40 = 83.  Didn't play that well but I can't complain about an 83.  I walked today, but we had a cart in our foursome and I caught a ride every once in awhile, so I didn't walk a complete 18.  It was a little cool when we teed off around 10:30, but it heated up pretty good around noon.  I only had one hole with a score larger than a bogey, that was a double bogey on hole #14, a par 5, after lying 3 just off the green hole high. I 4 putted from the fringe. Gee I hate that.  I hit a lot of good shots today, but managed to sneak in a few bad ones to boost my score.  And, I didn't putt very well. I couldh've saved a lot of bad holes by making a putt, but just couldn't convert.  My team did win, so I won $6 today.

Golf Today was a Train Wreck!

I played Shawnee GC today in my usual Tuesday Golf League. I knew I was due for a train wreck. I shot a 41 - 48 = 89. I didn't play to bad on the front nine, just didn't score well. The back nine a hit a few bad shots, and each one of them cost me. I hit into trees, then hit a tree trying to get out ending up behind where I started. Things like that. That's OK though, because I need to get my handicap back up to an acceptable level.  An 11 handicap just isn't me. Beautiful Day, and I enjoyed the round walking the 18 holes.  This was round 56 for the year.

Remember the olden days...............?

"1955 CHEVROLET and The Conversations That Went With It"
Comments made in the year 1955! (That's 55 years ago!)

'I'll tell you one thing, if things keep going the way
they are, it's going to be impossible
To buy a week's groceries for $20.00.

'Have you seen the new cars coming out next year? It won't be long before $2,000.00 will only buy a
used one.

'If cigarettes keep going up in price,
I'm going to quit. A quarter a pack is ridiculous.

'Did you hear the post office is thinking about
charging a dime just to mail a letter?

'If they raise the minimum wage to $1.00,
Nobody will be able to hire outside help at the store.

'When I first started driving, Who would have thought gas would someday cost 29cents a gallon.. Guess we'd be better off leaving the car in the garage.

'I'm afraid to send my kids to the movies any more.. Ever since they let Clark Gable get by with saying
DAMN in GONE WITH THE WIND, It seems every new movie has either HELL or DAMN in it.

'I read the other day where some scientist thinks
it's possible to put a man on the moon by the
end of the century.
They even have some fellows they call astronauts
preparing for it down in Texas .

'Did you see where some baseball player just signed a
contract for $75,000 a year just to play ball?
It wouldn't surprise me if someday they'll be
making more than the President.

'I never thought I'd see the day all our kitchen
appliances would be electric.
They are even making electric typewriters now.

'It's too bad things are so tough nowadays..
I see where a few married women are having to work
to make ends meet.

'It won't be long before young couples are going to
have to hire someone
To watch their kids so they can both work.

'I'm afraid the Volkswagen car is going to open the
door to a whole lot of foreign business.

'Thank goodness I won't live to see the day when the
Government takes half our income in taxes.
I sometimes wonder if we are electing the best
people to congress.

'The drive-in restaurant is convenient in nice weather,
But I seriously doubt they will ever catch on.

'There is no sense going to Lexington
or Cincinnatti anymore for a weekend,
It costs nearly $15.00 a night to stay in a hotel.

'No one can afford to be sick anymore,
At $35.00 a day in the hospital it's too rich for
my blood.'

'If they think I'll pay 50 cents for a haircut, forget it.'

It's the old joke, "As I get older I get a lot stronger. I used to have to make 4 trips to the car to carry in $20 worth of groceries.....now I can carry them in one hand."

Jillian's Art and Creativity amazes me

Jillian was drawing at my desk in the basement today. She drew this picture of a 'Jump Tree'.  When it jumps it goes "Boing-Boing-Boing". I couldn't get all the drawing in, it was a little large for my scanner, but she did a great job of sounding out the words. Jomp Tree, Brng. But the best part was the tree. Now that's a nice tree. She used my 4 leaf clover stamp to make the leaves. And, the part I liked the best, was the hole she made in the tree. "Jill, why did you make a hole in the tree?". "Well, it's for the animals to live in!" Nice tree Jill.

I'm pondering turning Pro!!!!

I played Iroquois GC today for my usual Thursday golf. I found out today that I won the back nine Tuesday and the total score for a grand total of...........$50! I played well and was hoping I'd win at least the back nine.  Today I had another good round, 38 - 38 = 76, and won low round net and was on the winning team for a grand total of $18. So, I won $68 today!  Yep, I'm thinking of turning pro.  I putted well Tuesday. I didn't hit that many greens in regulation, but chipped up and made good putts to save a lot of pars.  Today I didn't putt that well, but I hit the ball better. I think if I'd have putted today like I did Tuesday I could have been 3-4 strokes better.  I mean, two straight rounds in the 70's, that's pretty good. I hope this keeps up for awhile. The temperature was supposed to hit 100 degrees today so I decided to ride a cart.  Today was round #55 for the year.

Corporate Cup Races in a past life...

When I worked at Coca-Cola, I organized a Running Team each year to compete in the Corporate Cup Races held in October. We were fairly competitive against companies of the same size, but the Cup each year was dominated by the larger companies in Louisville, i.e., Ford, GE, UofL, etc. And, specialty companies like Swag's Sport Shop, which hired runners to work there. It was a chore each year to get enough people to run so that we had a runner for each event. You need men, women, differing age groups, Long distance runners, mid-distance runners, and Sprinters. We had several runners at Coca-Cola, and they were more than willing to join, but it was hard to talk people in to getting on the team when they normally didn't do any running. I was always proud of how well our team did, and how the non-runners performed when called on. It was always a lot of fun. A two day event, Saturday and Sunday, with relay races, mile races, 5K and 10K races. Events for men, women, and over 40's.
In the top picture, I'm at the far left, and in the bottom picture I'm under 'o' in 'Coca'.
We had teams from 1982-1989.

GOOD GOLF from BAD BOB

It was another Shawnee GC Tuesday. I played pretty good today and managed to have a round with nothing worse than a bogey. I shot a 40 - 37 = 77! Pretty darn good if I do say so myself! I don't think I can win the front nine, but I hope my back nine and total score wins. I think my handicap is 11, so my back nine would net me a 31 and a half, total net of 66.
I'm ready for it to start cooling off. I walked the 18 today. There was a little breeze today which helped a whole lot. When you were in the shade it would actually feel nice. It gave you a place to get some relief. During the summer, it was hot even in the shade. This was round #54 for the year.

Live Forever's (Sedum Purpureum) in bloom

The Live Forever's we have planted alongside the house are in bloom. They really attract the bee's and butterflies. The Aster's Mark planted on the hill in the back really attracted them last year, but this year they didn't bloom as well and, while I've seen bees back there, it hasn't been in the number I saw last year. I think they didn't bloom as well due to the lack of rain.

13th Annual Bubbalou Golf Scramble at Shawnee GC

The 13th Annual Bubbalou Golf Scramble was held today at Shawnee GC. 16 teams competed, and I'm pretty sure my team was the worst! We finished even par.....on Shawnee GC. I'm not sure I was the best player on our team, but I'd play any one of them for as much money as they wanted to play for. We had one par and one birdie on each nine, even par on each nine. We made several 15-20 putts to save par. So, all in all, I'd say we were pretty lucky to finish at even par.

Another Tuesday at Shawnee GC

I shot a 44 - 41 = 85 today at Shawnee GC. I thought I played a very bad front nine but a very good back nine. I hit a lot of bad shots on the front nine, a par 34, that I should be shooting around a 40. I missed a short putt on the first hole, but I thought the rest of the day I putted pretty good. I'm sure that score won't do much to raised my handicap and I'm sure it won't win me any money.
This Thursday I'll be playing in a scramble at Shawnee instead playing Iroquois GC. It's the Fall 'Bubalou' Golf Scramble, run by Gene McDonald. I'm not sure who my playing partners will be, but there are 16 teams signed up to play. Should be fun. This was round 53 for the year!

Round #52 for the Year was a real Stinker!

I played Weissinger Hills GC today and shot a 43 - 46 = 89. I played bad. In a normal round here lately I've had 4-6 bad shots a round that keeps me from have a real good round. Today, I'm guessing I had 12-15 really bad shots. Topped 3 woods, chunked chips, skulled sand shots, etc. I did hit a lot of good shots today, but good rounds are played with very few bad shots, not a lot of good ones. I was in 7 bunkers today. Many times I play Weissing Hills without getting in a single bunker. But, today, I couldn't stay out of them. I did hit several real nice bunker shots, but then again, I was getting a lot of practice. I think I putted well today. Not great, but I wasn't disappointed. It was a beautiful day for golf, and it was fun.

I'll apologize now for my poor memory

We went to Uncle George's Appreciation night at Twinbrook last night. We sat by Mary Bourke and Gordon. Gordon has Alzheimer's. He reminded me very much of my Dad in his final couple of years. Asking the same questions a few minutes apart, making the same comments. Never once realizing that he just asked the same question a couple of minutes ago. Even so,I found him to be a joy to talk to. You could tell he was enjoying himself and had no idea of his mental state.
It made me stop and think. Mary Lynn's family as far as I know has no history of Alzheimer's, and if she follows in the footsteps of her Dad and Uncle and Aunt, she'll have her mental faculty's up until her final days. However, my family is just the opposite. I feel sure if my body holds out long enough it will start to outlive my mind. I've seen it in my Dad, and now watch it happening to my Mother.
I guess the purpose of this post is to let Mark, Kevin and Brian know that I'm sorry. I'm sorry for all the times I'm going to ask you the same questions, make the same comments, can't recall your names. I'm sure your Mother will have the patience to put up with me, and I hope you do, too. Please know that I have no idea that I don't remember. Even if you tell me, I won't remember it a minute later. Come visit me even though it's uncomfortable. I'll tell you now that I appreciate it, even though I'm sure that I'll have no idea at that time how hard it was for you to visit.
I hope this is years away. And, it probably is. But if I live long enough I have no doubt it will happen to me. Of course, there's always the possibility that they find a cure or treatment that works wonders.
Mark, Kevin and Brian probably think I exhibit a lot of those symptoms even now. I know I repeat myself, asking the same questions, telling the same stories. But, I think that's due more to not seeing each of you for a week or two.

If it's Thursday, it must be Iroquois....

I walked 18 again today. The weather was nicer than it was Tuesday. It's amazing how much better you feel when you get finished walking 18 holes in 82 degree weather versus 98 degree weather.
I shot a 41 - 40 = 81. My handicap has dropped to an 11. I'm much to consistant to win any money with an 11 handicap. My net score today was 70 and I was 5 or 6 strokes away from being low score.
It's amazing how one shot can either make a hole or mess up a hole. Today on the back nine I had one bad shot on each par 5 and ended up with a 7 on both holes. 5 over on the back nine and 4 over on those two holes. I've been hitting the ball really well, but I need to get rid of those couple of bad shots per 9 to score really well. But, the weather was nice, it was fun, and it was round 51 for the year.

Shawnee GC on a Tuesday

Meanwhile, I know the cartoon on the right has nothing to do with golf, but I thought it was funny.
I played Shawnee GC today. It's the first time I've played Shawnee in awhile. It just got way to hot this summer to walk 18 so I decided to take Tuesday's off. But, I played today and walked 18 holes. I shot a 38 - 44 = 82. I played the front nine pretty good but screwed up a few shots on the back that cost me plenty. I triple bogied number 14, with a poor drive and bad chip shots. This was round number 50 for the year.

Round 49 FTY, played at Charlie Vettiner GC

I played Charlie Vettiner GC today with Mark, Brent, and J. R. It was a nice day to play and I hadn't played CV GC in a long time. That is one tough course, especially the back nine. I shot a 41 - 46 = 87. J. R. and I played form the Senior (Yellow) Tees, and Mark and Brent played from the white tees. Mark shot a 45 - 48 = 93, Brent a 50 - 53 = 103, and J. R. a 51 - 53 = 104. the White tees play 6,450 yards and the Yellow 6,049. The Yellow tees at Iroquois play 5,226. A big difference!
I hit the ball pretty good today, but we all had trouble putting. Those greens were really tough! And, some of the pins were put in hard locations. Many greens were 3 putted. Many of the par 4's were 380+ yards from the yellow tees. Now, with my 180 yard drives, that makes for a long par 4. I like the course, even though I think it's a tought course. It's fun to play and is usually in pretty good shape. I just wish it wasn't so hard to walk, which we did today. Walking 18 at Charlie Vettiner gives you a pretty good work out.

Thursday Golf at Iroquois GC

My regular Thursday round at Iroquois GC today. I shot a 40 - 43 = 83. Every round of golf I finish I look back at the few really bad shots I hit and think what it 'could've been'. I hit 5 bad shots today. Each one cost me at least 1 stroke. Just getting those 5 strokes back the round would have been a 78. I 'skulled' 2 wedges over the green. Both of those cost me the original shot plus one more. I hit one 3-wood in a creek. Not a real bad shot, just didn't get it up enough to clear the high weeds in the creek. One ball dribbled off the heel of the 3-wood on hole 9 and a badly pulled 5-iron on hole 15 and there it was. A score of 83 that should have been in the upper 70's. Other than those shots I hit the ball well and putted well today. Just 5 shots that if they had been hit so-so I'd be looking at shooting a 75-76. Don't all of you golfers think about all the shots you threw away during a round and what 'could've been'? But, like Dandy Don says "If it's and but's were candy and nuts.......". Round 48 for the year.
