Recent rains didn't wet the grounds enough for Metal Detecting

After the recent rain I thought the ground might be ready to start metal detecting again. No. It's still dry as a bone. Down about an inch and a half it's hard as rock.  I tried metal detecting at St. Matthias field today, found about a dollar, but the ground was not ripe for detecting. I found 2 pennies at Algonquin Park last week and 98 cents at St. Matthias today. We need a couple of days of a good, soaking rain.
