Pine Mountain Golf Trip

14 of us went on a golf trip this past weekend to Pine Mountain State Resort Park. The golf course there was Wasioto Winds GC. It was a nice course, but the fairways were in poor shape. They were wet and burned out. Most drives plugged. With my short drives, with no roll, I was lucky to hit it 165 yards. That meant par 4's, most of them around 365 yards, I was around 200 yards away after my drive. Hard to par them when you can't reach them in 2. We got rained on Saturday Morning and had to stop for about a half hour.
We played one round Friday afternoon, playing our own ball. We played our own ball Saturday morning, then Saturday afternoon had a scramble. Sunday morning we played a 'Shamble'. We each hit our drives, picked the best one, and played our own ball from there. So, my scores were:
42 - 48 = 90, 50 - 50 = 100, 2 under and 3rd place out of 4 teams in the scramble, and 40 - 42 = 82 in the Shamble. Those longer drives I got to use really helped me on Sunday. So, the rounds I played my own ball was rounds 39 & 40 for the year.
I almost ran out of golf balls. I took 20 balls with me and after Saturday's rounds I had 4 left! The course had a lot of water, each one surrounded by cat-tails and high weeds. No retrieving balls from the water. Usually I find more balls than I lose, but on this course you didn't find any balls. Lost balls, usually in the water, stayed lost. But, Sunday I only lost one ball and that was on the 18th hole. I put my drive in the water. I couldn't stand the pressure.
We stayed at the lodge and the food was great. Order off the menu in the mornings and a large Buffet in the evenings. I had fun, now back to the grind of being retired!

If you are short of ideas for your summer vacation, why don't you consider a golf vacation? Golf vacations are a very good opportunity to learn a complex sport while enjoying the outdoors.
