That's my goal every time I play. Play 18 with nothing worse than a bogey. I think this is th first time I've done it. If not, the first time in a long time. I played Shawnee GC today and shot a 40 - 40 = 80. If I could have putted it would have been around a 76! I left I don't know how many first putts today 10-12 feet short! And 3 putted 4 or 5 times! The rest of my game was good, but not the putting. I did make several long putts, and several of my putts I left way short, I made in 2. I think because I played well, it made two putting harder. I hit a lot of greens in regulation. Which often put ma a long way from the hole, but on the green. Where, other rounds I would miss the green, but chip up closer to the hole. So, I had a lot more long putts today. So, all in all, I guess I'll take playing well and just work on my putting.
Round 14 for the year.
P.S. I won $18 for low back nine Tuesday with my 39!

Golf Balls I Play
A lot of people are very particular about the ball they play golf with. Not me. I've never been that way. When people ask me what kinda ball I play with my answer is "Wifl". They say "Whiffle"? Well, "Wifl - Whatever I Found Last." Some people ask "Don't you ever play with a new ball?" And my answer is "Not really. They're hard to find". I don't much care for yellow balls, but I found these and have been using them to get rid of them. Well, I've played the last two rounds with them and I still have'em. I'll play golf with them today. Most of my balls have a scuff or two on them, but once thay get to bad I throw them in the shag bag. I usually give my golf balls the "Bounce Test". I drop two on the basement floor and whichever one bounces the highest, that's the one I play with. I'll also play with pink golf balls I find. My only fear is that one day I'll finally make a hole in one, and it will be with a pink ball. I'm gonna love having that in my little trophy or plaque I buy myself.

Round 13...No so Unlucky
I played Shawnee GC today with the usual group. I shot a 43 - 39 = 82. My lowest round of the year. I finished the back nine with 4 straight pars, only 3 over on the back nine. I'm still not in the groove yet, but feel like it's getting better. My handicap with this group is 15. So, on the back nine I shot a 31 and 1/2. That may get me some money. I'll find out Thursday.I feel pretty good about my round because the back nine is harder than the front nine. The front nine is a par 34 and the back and par 36. I'm still the 'C' player on our Coke Scramble team, but those North Koreans better bring their 'A' game.

J. R. Harris Designer Luggage....And Bardstown Golf Trip
I went on an overnight golf trip to Bardstown this weekend with J. R. Harris, Harold Goad, and Barry Rahn. We played 2 rounds Saturday, 1 round Sunday and came back home. I never played my own ball for a complete 18 in any of the 3 rounds, so I have no score. We played a combination of scramble, alternate shot, and match play, changing each nine holes. J. R. and I played Harold and Barry. We won by 3 points overall in a very close match.
I met J. R. at the Cracker Barrel on Crittenden Drive. He left his car there and I drove. When he pulled up and we got out to load his clubs and luggage into my car, his luggage consisted of 3 plastic grocery bags! One for clothes, one for toiletries, and one for snacks. I said, "J. R., don't you have a travel bag?". His response was "Yeah, I got a nice Coke bag. But it still has stuff in it from my Arkansas trip." (Which was 6 weeks ago). So, this is a picture of 'J. R. Harris Designer Luggage'.

Mr. Opossum came to visit
I've had a cat stalking my bird feeder lately. So, I set my trap last night to see if I could get him. I didn't get the cat but caught Mr. Opossum. I can't decide if I want to take him for a ride over to Indiana or keep him around to add to my burgoo Derby Week. If you think he doesn't have sharp teeth, click on the picture and check out the can of cat food, that didn't have holes in it when I put it in the trap.

Golf at Iroquois, Round 12 for the Year
No, I didn't ride this 18. I walked. It was a record High temperature today. At least tied the record high, 86. That's hot for this early in the year. And Iroquois didn't have any drinking water out on the course. None of their fountains were turned on yet and they didn't have any coolers out. Walking 18 in this heat this early is tough. Especially with no water. I took a water bottle, but it was empty after 4 holes. I filled it on the turn and rationed it to make it last 8 holes, but it was tough. Anyway, about my game. I shot a 43 - 43 = 86. I didn't play to bad. I missed a lot of very makeable putts. Seems like every one of them I missed on the high side of the cup. I hit the ball a little to hard for the break I was playing and rolled them over the edge of the cup. Just a little bit, and I could have been around an 80. I'm just glad I'm the 'C' player come scramble time.

Post "3" for the day, A new Record!
While resting in the the swing this evening I decided to get out my metal detector and check out the back yard. I've gone over some of it, but I was sure Mark and Brian had covered all of it. Well, I found this bent up dime, 1988, and this Louisville Railway Co. token good for one fare. I rember seeing these tokens. I think they were used as late as the 1950's. One more item for my bascart!
Yard Work
I used to have two bushes between the steps in the back yard. I liked them. I worked hard to keep them looking good and full, trimmed back out of the way. Mary Lynn said they were 'ugly'. Soooo......out they go! We now have two rose bushes in their place. I also dug up and moved the yucca's to the bottom of the yard, by the birdfeeders. I don't know if they'll live. I divided them into 3 plants. They had a pretty big root ball. Oh well, I have no idea where I'll hide my Easter Eggs next year.
I'd Bet on Jill Any Ol' Day
I guess my Spring Break is over. Mary Lynn had me working in the backyard today. That will be another blog entry. But, while working today, I took a break here and there. Once, I was in the basement cooling off and turned the TV on to the TVG network to watch a few races while I rested. Well, there was a horse running in the 4th race at Aquaduct named 'Jill The Pill'. The odds were 21 - 1. Well, what the heck, I got on line and put a $2 place bet on her. She came in second and paid $17! Jilley, you made my day.

'A" PLAYER?
Just in the past few days the media has been questioning my purported claim to "A" Player on our golf team. Well, my thoughts were that because I'm allowed to hit from the senior tees I might me more valuable. Well, the media has pointed out that Julie will be hitting from the Ladies tees and is a better golfer anyway. So, for that reason she should be the "A" Player. And, even from the white tees, Jit will still be out driving me. Also, the media has pointed out that my short irons are terrible. So, they say, like all good "C" player, they might be able to use a putt of mine every now and then. So, we have Julie as the "A" Player, Jit the "B" Player, Bob the "C" Player, and Mary Lynn as the "D" Player. The media had no problem placing me ahead of Mary Lynn as she hasn't struck a ball in over 2 years. However, they said that was just the front nine. It may change on the back nine. By the way, the guy in the picture is imitating my swing.

Round 11and Still trying to maintain my 'A' Player Status
I still can't get rid of my terrible shots. I played pretty good, overall. But, it's those lapses in my concentration, or something that keeps me from having a good round. Today, on the the first hole, I hit a good drive. Then, topped two 3-woods in a row and ended up with a 7 on the par 5. Then, on 17, a par 4, I hit my drive to the right into the woods. Didn't hit one like that all day. Ended up with a 7. I shot a 41 - 46 = 87 at Weissinger Hills GC. I'm very close to playing low 80's golf, but just can't make that final step. It'll come. It's close. I'm going to Bardstown this weekend on a mini-golf trip, one night, and will be playing 3 rounds in two days. Maybe that will get me over the hump.

Overnight Guests Rate The Tabler Inn for Derby Patrons
Erin and Jill helped us out by spending the night and letting us know what we need to improve on before our Derby Guests arrive in a couple of weeks. Erin seemed to think everything was 4 star, but Jill was harder to win over. Before retiring for the evening she told me " Try not to snore tonight, Grampy." I think the breakfast of Bob's special French Toast, Link Sausage, assorted fresh fruit and chocolate soy milk, along with Mickey Mouse on TV, might have gotten us the rating we need.

Metal Detecting at Chance School
I metal detected at Chance School this morning on the soccer field. I found 4 old pennies. I can't yet make out the date on two of them, but the other two are a 1923 and 1919. I also found a Alabama State Tax Commission Luxery Tax Token, whatever that is. Also two other objects. One of which I think is a button, and the other the remnants of a pin. There is writing on the pin, but I can't make out what is says. It seems to be fairly legible, but I can't read it. So, I'm guessing it might not be in English. Well, more neat stuff to pile in my Shopping Cart!

Uh-Oh.....I think my 'A' Player Status is in Jeopardy.
I played Iroquois GC today. I know, I know, it was my Wedding Anniversary. But my lovely wife of 43 years said it was OK. We went out to Breakfast and went out to Dinner. Anyway, I shot a 45 - 43 = 88. Seems I'm stuck on 88. Once again, I hit a lot of good shots, but couldn't keep the bad ones out of my game. I think the worst part of my game is my iron play. My tee shots have been good, my fairway woods OK, my chipping and putting good. If I can count on Mary Lynn hitting good irons in the scramble, we're in the chips! Maybe those two North Koreans, Joo-li and Jit, will help us out.

Metal Detecting Stash Tops One Hundred Dollars!
When I got my metal detector for my Birthday a little over a year ago, my goal was to find $100 my first year. Well, with December, January, and February being such lousy months to do anything, I fell a little short. But, in 13 months I reached $100! I now have $101.03 in money found. I'd like to know how much of that money is in pennies, but I'm not going to count them. I only found 2 dollar coins and 1 50 cent coin. It's been fun and interesting.
1st Scramble of the Year
Our Tuesday Shawnee Group has two scramble a year. One Master's week and the other in late Fall. We played at Shawnee today and had about 8 groups. I thought I played pretty good. I hit good tee shots, good fairway woods, and putted well. That leaves my short irons. Not so hot. I had a hard time staying down on them and ended up hitting a lot of them thin. Not exactly the way you want to hit a short iron. We finished one under, in last place. But, we won $5 for finishing last, which is $5 more than 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th place. It was very windy, and I've never played well in the wind. The temperature was summer like, in the 70's, and this was the first time out this year that I didn't feel stiff. I'm gearing up to be the "A" player on our Coca-Cola Scramble Team!

My Latest Find
.................After I got home from the Easter Parade today I went to Highland Traditional School and metal detected for a while. While there, a lady asked me if I'd check an area where she said she'd lost a silver earring about a year ago. It was not an area I would have spent much time on normally, but for her I made a thorough check. I didn't find the earring, but I did find this 'Rand', from South Africa. I thought it was a game token when I first looked at it. I don't know what 1 rand is worth in U. S. money. I think the pictures are pretty clear so you can click on the picture and get a good close-up view. I thought it was a pretty neat find.

Hula Hoop Action
Jillian was a little slow on the 'hip movement'. The hoop had already hit the ground when she's starts to wiggle.

Recent interesting Finds
Here are some recent 'digs' I found interesting. The ladle seems pretty old and I don't know what it was made out of, maybe copper. Then the little bowl made of copper and the lid, also made of copper. The bowl and lid don't go together, I found them at different places, even though they almost fit together. I know what the big spoon is, but the other two items, I have no clue what they would have been used for. The lid was found at Audubon Elem School and the spoon and bowl found at St. Matthias Field.
