Golf Scramble Weekend

I played two scrambles this weekend. Saturday I played in a Scramble to benefit Women's Basketball at Male High School. This was held at Long Run GC. Our team finished -6. Today I played at Cherokee GC in scramble to raise money for the St. Stephen Martyr Men's Club. We shot a -5 there. Both scores put us in about the middle of the pack. I think I played fairly well in both tournaments. I hit a few bad shots, but I think I helped us enough that I wasn't a burden. I did finish the weekend today by birdie-ing the last hole we played by myself. A par 3 that I hit last on, with nobody else anywhere near the green. I put a ball about 12 feet below the hole and sunk the putt. I did have my name on a closest to the pin hole for awhile today, but it didn't hold up. I think I've got one more Scramble this year. That will be on Thursday, Sept. 16.

Round 47 for the year was a Stinker!

I played Iroquois GC today and shot a 43 - 45 = 88. I shot a 78 last week. Hmmm......10 shots worse. Not so good. I did feel like I putted better today, made a couple of long putts, and the putts I missed I felt like they were good efforts. I miss-hit several iron shots today that really cost me, and let a couple of drives get away to the right that cost me. But, overall, I feel like I played better than I scored. I walked the front 9 and rented a cart for the back 9. The weather was nice and I could have walked the whole 18, but I knew I would be really tired the final few holes so I thought riding would help me to enjoy the round a little more. And, I was right. It was fun, just wish I could have scored better.

Poor Putting brings about high Scores!

I played Shawnee GC today, the first time in several weeks. The weather was pretty nice today so I decided to walk. Whew! Several weeks without walking 18 holes gets you out of walking shape! I really got tired the last several holes. I finished double bogey, triple bogey, bogey and shot a 41 - 46 = 87. Hit one OB on #17. I really putted bad today. Missed several short putts I should have made, and even the medium long putts weren't very good efforts. I need to be a little bolder on my putts. I've been concentrating on hitting them the right distance and not putting 'through' the ball. Well, I needed to get my handicap up a little anyway. Round 46 for the Year!

A little Laundry Money

When I do laundry, every once in awhile I'll find a penny, dime, or maybe even several coins. When that happens I feel like "Wow, doing laundry really pays well". But today I hit the jackpot! While taking clothes out of the washer I found a wadded up bill, then another, and another. All together I came up with $55! I knew this would happen, Mary Lynn is trying to claim it was hers. "I put it in my pocket when I went to yard sales Saturday!". Yea, Right! I know the rule. "Finders keepers, losers weepers!"

Round 45 FTY, Weissinger Hills GC

I played Weissinger Hills GC today and shot a 42 - 43 = 85. I played fairly well, had trouble on a couple of holes that cost me. I really feel good about my tee shots. I've hit the ball well, my fairway shots have been improving. My putting is the main culprit. I've been putting well, overall, but have these holes where I 3 putt. Usually, after making a pretty good first putt, but maybe running it by the hole about 3 feet, then missing the short one to finish. There were several holes today that I had a long putt, 20-30 feet, and rolled it up to have it stop just short of the hole. To me, that's a good putt, but I need to be a little bolder. But, then, that's when I tend to run it by a couple of feet, then miss the short putt. Anyway, I don't feel like my putting is very far off, but it has been costing me a lot of shots lately. I gave Greg Lynn one stroke a side today. I beat him on the front, he beat me on the back, and we tied the 18. So, we broke even. Can't complain about that.

Thursday Golf at Iroquois GC

Thursday golf at Iroquois GC today. I played pretty good today, but I look back at all the short putts I missed and think about how much better it could have been. I'm still misssing those short 3-5 foot putts. But, I made better putts today, I think I just read them wrong. Two short putts were missed, even though I made a good stroke on them, but they broke out of the hole and I lipped them out. I really didn't think there would be very little if any break, but I was wrong. So, I was pleased with the putt, but the read was bad. I shot a 37 - 41 = 78. It was good enough to win low man with handicap. My 12 handicap netted me a 66. That won me $12! Our team came in 2nd by 5 strokes, but ahead of 3rd place by 14 strokes. Let's see, I think this was round 44 for the year.
