Golf at Iroquois....Metal Detecting at the Water Tower

I played Iroquois GC today. The first time I've played Iroquois since last Fall, I believe. First time ever playing there from the senior tees. I shot a 41 - 43 = 84. I was very pleased with my front 9. I had 4 pars and 5 bogeys. I love having nine holes with nothing larger than a bogey. The good luck didn't last long into the back nine with a double bogey on #10. There were 6 of us playing and I won $4. Yep, I'm turning pro! Round 34 FTY.

On another note, I metal detected yesterday for the first time in a good while. We had a hard rain yesterday morning and the temperature was in the mid-70's. I thought it looked like a good day to do a little digging. It was fun, but I only found 1 dime and 6 pennies. This was at the Water Tower.

Tuesday Golf at....Sun Valley GC

We played Sun Valley GC today instead of Shawnee. Must have had another tournament going on there. I shot a 42 - 38 = 80. I'm very proud of the 38 on the back nine. I had 7 par's and 2 bogey's. Don't know if that will win any money. If it doesn't then I guess there's no way I can win until my handicap goes up. I'm just not going to shoot any better than that. A little rain hit us on the 13th hole. I like these new carts that have a canvas awning on the back that you can pull out over the clubs when it rains. Very convenient. We pulled under a tree and waited about 15 minutes for the rain to stop, then continued the round. We really didn't get wet at all. This was round 33 for the year.

Another Sunday Night at Willow Park

Willow Park was jumping again tonight with the music of "Delicious Blues Stew" Cajon Blues Band. At any one time there were dancers ages 8 to 80 jumping to the music. The Concerts will continue each weekend until Labor Day 7:00 pm each Sunday night. Come on out and have some fun!

Iguanas in the Highlands....

We went on an Iguana hunt today. Mary Lynn and I knew about the iguanas but weren't sure where they were. Several months ago Mary Lynn posted a picture of the Giant Bunny carved from a tree stump. These Iguanas are what's left over from one of the storms last year. The mask at right, I don't know what it's left over from. It's in a yard on Douglas Blvd and we can't imagine why its there, but it's been there for over a year. These two tourists attractions plus the Giant Bunny will be on "Bob and Mary Lynn's Pretty Good Tour" next year at Derby Time.

Topsy - Turvy Update

I started this plant late and had to buy a very small plant to fit into the hole in the bottom of the pot(See left Photo). Well, it's finally started to produce! The bottom of the pot is about 5 feet above the ground, but the plant has now reached the ground and started to curl back up. It has many tomatoes on it and a lot of blooms. I don't think it gets enough sun so it has gotten a little spindly, and most of the green tomatoes and blooms are one the bottom and out of the picture. But take my word for it, it is full of tomatoes and blooms!

Tuesday at Shawnee GC Round 32 FTY

I shot pretty good again today. I had a 39 - 41 - 80. We played the back nine first so I think the 39 was a very good score. The round of 41 included a couple of 3-putts that fattened up my score. Keeping those putts to a 2-putt I woulda had a 39-39.

Two weeks ago I shot a 79 and found out today that score won all the money. Front nine, Back nine, and 18 hole score. I won $35! The week before that I won the front nine for $15, for a two week total of $50!!! I'm thinking of turning pro. I believe this week I stand a good chance to win with my 39 on the front nine. I'll find out next week. I've been playing very well and my putting determines if my score will be below the mid-80's.

Dale Hollow Golf Trip

I just got back from my golf trip to Dale Hollow Lake State Park. we had a great time. The course was beautiful, the rooms clean and roomy, and the people very nice. I played 4 rounds, one of which was a scramble. I shot an 84 on my first round, followed by a 93 and 91. My first round my chipping and putting was very good, but sorta left me after that. The course was very hilly and very well bunkered, as you can see by the pictures I posted. There were 13 of us on the trip and we played three 3-somes and One 4-some each day. My 84 on Friday was the second lowest round of the day beaten only by a 79. Al Scalzo shot the 79 with a 35 on the front side, the lowest 9 of his life. We played from the #3 tees, of 5 tee boxes, which I think would be equal to the white tees.

Rounds for the year 29, 30, 31!

We played a scramble Saturday afternoon. I was on the only team with 4 players. The teams with 3 players alternated players taking an extra shot to have 4 shots for each stroke. I've always thought that was an advantage in a scramble. My team finished last at -2, the winner was -7. We birdied 4 holes but bogeyed 2 holes. Our biggest problem was not being able to get a ball close on short iron shots. The trip was fun and I look forward to next year.
