Round 38 for the year, an 82 at Iroquois GC

I played round 38 for the year today. I shot a 40 - 42 = 82 at Iroquois GC. I didn't play that bad, but I sure left a lot of putts short. Shorter putts I'd leave on the lip, and long putts I'd leave about 6feet short, then leave it on the lip for a 3 putt. Putting well today I could have shot 77-78 easy.
I'm leaving in the morning for Pine Mountain State Park for a 3 day golf trip. We play one round tomorrow afternoon when we get there, then 18 in the morning Saturday, a scramble Saturday afternoon, then one round Sunday morning and head back home. I hope I can continue hitting the ball OK and improve on my putting. I just need to be a little bolder. All my putts were on line, just short. I'll let you know about the trip when I get back.

SALSA NIGHT AT WILLOW PARK, HOT WEATHER, HOT MUSIC !

There have been a couple of posts on Facebook and Mary Lynn has a Salsa Post on her blog, but I thought I'd post this short video I took last night that pretty much shows how crowded the dance floor was. It was this way every song played for 2 hours.

Topsy-Turvy Update

I thought I'd update you on my Home-made Topsy-Turvy tomato plant. I really didn't want to buy one from the store for $15, so I did my own. I didn't have enough potting soil to fill this pot, so I mixed sand with the soil I had. My reasoning was that it would help it to drain well and not get root-rot from to much water. Good intentions, but what it has done is make me water this plant twice a day or it will dry out. I'm not sure if I can blame it on the soil or the heat we've been having. It has a lot of tomato's on it, but they are small. I think that's mainly due to it drying out every so often when I forget to water it. Several times is looked so bad I didn't think it would come back. But, about an hour after watering it it would fill back out. I don't think I'll do this again, but it was kinda neat to watch grow.

Oh Crap! More Bad Golf!

I know the name of this Blog is Bob's Bad Golf, but I wish I could write about some GOOD golf sometime. I played Weissinger Hills GC today and shot a 45 - 50 = 95, my worst round in a little while.I mis-hit a lot of shots in the fairway today. Just one of those rounds when you feel like "What's the use?". We had a threesome, and the course hooked us up with a single, who rode with me. What a Jerk he was. That may have been one of the reasons I played so bad. I can't stand playing with someone who cusses and throws clubs every time he hits a poor shot. I mean, I could tell he wasn't that good, so why not expect to hit some poor shots when you're out there? Believe me, I'm an expert on hitting poor shots. But, while I don't like it, I feel like I'm pretty easy going about it. I know that I play better than the way I played today. But if I were with 3 strangers, they wouldn't know that, and I don't think I'd need to tell them. If I couldn't play better when I'm with them, then as far as they're concerned, that's the way I play, and I'll let them believe that. I might play with them again sometime and maybe they'll give me strokes. I doubt that I've ever played with someone when they've played the worst game they've ever played. I know people play good sometime and bad sometime, and I never expect that the game they're playing today is the same way they play all the time. This was round 37 for the year. I still had fun.

Round 36 for the Year and Not getting any Better!

I played Iroquois GC today in my usual Thursday group. I shot a 43 - 41 = 84. I found out my handicap dropped from a 14 to a 12. He only handicaps us off our last 6 scores, so I guess a big score must have dropped off when my 82 was added from Tuesday. I didn't win any money Tuesday or today. Today I had a lot of good holes, but when I'd hit one bad shot on a hole, I'd hit another one on the same hole. Usually I can screw up a good hole with one bad shot, but today I seemed to group them together on the same holes. Still, I guess I can't complain about an 84. I did ride a cart today. I'm sure if I'd tried to walk today they'd of had the Coroner's Wagon pick me up on about hole #7.

Bob's Adventures in Sleep Land

I couldn't or didn't get a chance to take a picture of me, but I found this picture, which shows how you're hooked up for the sleep study.
What you can't see is the wires that run down the inside of your pants and hook to your legs. Also, there are a large number of connections on and around the top of the head which aren't very noticeable in the picture. Now, try to sleep.
It was an adventure. With my Claustrophobia I was worried I'd have a hard time with all this hooked up to me. I think I slept about normal, dispite the hook-ups. Once they have you wired up and you get into bed, lights out, ready for sleep, they come over the intercom and have you do a few things to make sure the hook-ups are recording properly. Such as keep you eyes open without blinking for 10 seconds, count to five, look up, down, right, left, without moving your head. These things monitor the movement of your eyes. Then in the morning, they have you do the same things before they unhook you. In the morning I was told I have SOME sleep apnia and that I snored LIGHTLY. Mary Lynn said I must have been on my good behavior. I didn't feel like I slept more than 4 hours during the night, waking up very often and lying there awake for awhile before falling back to sleep. I was told to try and sleep on my back as much as possible, which is hard. Because I sleep on my right and left side. And rolling from side to side with all these hook-ups wasn't very easy and tended to get you more wide awake than you would be just rolling over without them. I only had one leg cramp thru the night, which caused me to sit up on the edge of the bed. Right away a voice came over the intercom "Are you OK Mr. Tabler?". So, they monitor your every move while you're sleeping. I would guess their video camero also sees in the dark. I only had to get up and use the bathroom once during the night. They have to come in and unhook you for that.
Anyway, I got through it! They said they'd call in a couple of days and I'll go in and see the Doctor and let him tell me what results they got from the study.

Golf at Shawnee on a Tuesday

I walked 18 at Shawnee GC today. It was a real struggle. I shot a 40 - 42 = 82. It could have been a much better round, but I 3 putted about 5 greens. I hit the ball well, overall, but couldn't seem to leave those long putts close today. And, I bet I lipped out another 4 or 5 putts. I think with the breeze today it shouldn't have been so hot, but the humidity made up for it. It's the worst I've ever felt finishing 18 holes. I've made up my mind that I'm not walking 18 holes any day it's supposed to be over 88 degrees.

This was round 35 for the year.

The best weather night at Willow Park so Far this year

The night started out looking like it might rain, and it did a little. Just a few sprinkles around 7:00 o'clock. But, they stopped, the cloud cover remained, and the temperature was nice and we had a nice breeze. The best weather night so far. The crowd arrived a little late. When we got there, we parked right beside the park and not many people were in attendance. We thought the threat of rain might keep them away, but the started showing up and the park was packed. The music was very good for dancing and the dance floor was crowded all night. We had a seat up front, like always, but a big woman sat next to us a lit up a cigarette, and that's all we needed. We moved back a little ways for the rest of the night. I would put a couple of more pictures up, but I think Mary Lynn has a story to tell about that on her blog. Uncle George and his entourage was there again.

Erin and Jill have really gotten used to the water

In the past two week Erin and Jill have really made big jumps in their swimming ability. Erin is swimming by herself now, floating on her back, and learning how to do the back stroke and free style. Jill, always hating to get her face wet, now puts her face under water, blows bubbles, and as you can see by the picture, loves swimming. These girls have really impressed me. They're going to take another two weeks of lessons and I can't even imagine how well they'll two weeks from now.
For those who have never been to these swim lessons, they are in water over their heads.

Shawnee GC on a Thursday

I played Shawnee GC today, round 34 for the year. I shot a 41 -41 = 82. Didn't play real well, but can't be to disappointed with an 82. However, #10 was shortened to a short par 4 due to re-sodding of the fairway. The tee was moved up just past the two large trees, with new sod being put down between there and the normal tee boxes. I'm glad they're trying to do something with that fairway, but I'm not sure this is going to work. I think they need to raise the fairway up so that it will drain better, with loads of dirt before sodding. I hope I'm wrong.
I rode a cart today. I hate doing that at Shawnee, an easy course to walk. But, with the heat like it is, it's just not fun walking.

Expecting new neighbors, but these guys moved in unexpectedly

We've been expecting new neighbors next door, since the house has been for sale. But, we had new neighbors move into one of our bird houses in the back yard. I've seen a sparrow zipping in and out every time I go out the back door, so I new she was nesting in there. But Saturday, when I went outside there was a lot of peeping going on inside that box. Later that day when I went out they had their heads stuck out wanting something to eat. I know there is at least 2 little birds. There could be more. Momma seems to be doing a good job. When I go out the door, she flies off, but only up in the the tree next door so she can watch me.

Spring Slyder Cup Results

We played our Summer Slyder Cup Golf tournament at Cherry Blossom GC today in Georgetown, Ky. J. R. and I lost on the final hole. It was tied going to the 18th hole and we bogeyed the hole and Harold and Barry sunk a 6 foot putt to par the hole and win the match. It was close all the way, tho J. R. and I were never ahead. We played good at times, making some crucial putts, but our luck ran out on the final hole. We'd won 2 in a row and was hoping for a three-peet, but now we need to regroup and look to win the next big Slyder Cup showdown!

Willow Park Sunday Night

It was another fun night at Willow Park. We met Mark and Kim and the girls, plus the Norrenbrock's and Ilari's. Erin told me when she got there "I want to dance the first song with you, Grandpa". Well, when a pretty girls asks you to dance, you dance. Erin and Jill got to enjoy a nice cool popsickle on a hot night. I don't know about other neighborhoods, but I'd bet there's not another place in Louisville like Willow Park on a Sunday night!

Mr. 'Possum takes a Ride

I caught another varmit last night. This one is a small opossum, about half grown. Something has been upsetting my squirrel traps, rolling them around to get at the peanuts. So I set my big trap to find out what it might be. I really thought it was a raccoon, and it still might be. But, this guy was the one that took the bait. I took him for a ride down on Mellwood by 'Mom's Music' and let him go in the gravel parking lot. He now has a nice home down by the river.

Thursday at Eagle Creek GC

We played Eagle Creek Gc in LaGrange, Ky today. It was round 33 for the year and I shot 45 - 38 = 83. I was not all happy with my front nine, but pleased with the back nine. I only had a couple of holes on the front nine that were bad, but those two holes were 'really' bad.
I had a stretch on the back nine where I birdied two strait holes, and miss a very makeable birdie putt on the next hole, a par three. I've never birdied three holes in row before. It would have been nice. Out team won low team today, so I got $6 for my effort. My net 69 score didn't come close to Buddy's 73 net 62! But, we were teammates...so way to go Buddy! I think my next round will be Monday at Cherry Blossom GC. But, I believe this one will be a round where we alternate shots on some holes, scramble some holes, and play our own balls on some holes. So, it won't count on my total rounds for the year.

Bad golf at Seneca GC....mostly the front side

I played Senceca GC today with Brian, Mark and Matt. It was round 32 for the year. I played a very poor front nine but played a little better on the back nine. I shot a 49 - 42 = 91. I walked the front nine but decided to ride the back. It got just a little to hot. I've noticed that when you're playing bad, you get bad breaks. If you hit a tree, it kicks the wrong way. When you need a good bounce one direction, it kicks the other way. I really think the better you play, the more good breaks you get.
This is the kind of round I need all those people who want me to give them strokes to remember. They never remember these 90 plus rounds. At least, not as long as I remember them!

I was attacked !

While sitting in the swing in the back yard I was attacked by these two water gun wielding thugs! While doing the Army low-crawl, they said "pretend you can't see us". So, not being able to see them, it was a complete surprise attack!

I tell ya, I'm rolling in money!!!

I played Iroqouis GC today, shot a 41 - 38 = 79. Played pretty good. Our team won, so I got back $6. Jerry Norrenbrock won low man. He had a 73, net 58! My 79, less my 14 handicap netted me a 65. I played pretty good and got beat my 7 strokes! I did find out that I won the front nine on Tuesday. So I got $19 from that. So, $25 total today. Yep, the money's just rolling in!
