Like taking candy from a Baby......

We drafted for our Fantasy Football League tonight. There was supposed to be 7 of us, but Dan dropped out at the last minute. At the table, clockwise from the foreground, Jackie, Kenny, Greg, Bob, Brad, and Brian. As you can see, I didn't have much competition. With only six people, the talent level on each team will be pretty high, so I can see how they also might me a little optimistic. But, top to bottom, the starters I put on the field will dominate from week one. In a couple of days I'll have a list of players on each team and make my full league end of the season prediction!
Enough trash talk. Now to the real world. My whole season depends on my quarterback. Experts pre-season predictions would point this out as my weak spot. I'm looking for Atlanta to have a good year, and along with that Matt Ryan to have a career year. If this happens, I'm in the chips! The rest of my team is VERY strong. GO ATLANTA!

Scramble Golf Tournament at Cherokee GC

I played a scramble Sunday at Cherokee GC. We finished 1 over par. Cherokee is a very short course, birdies are readily available on the very short par 4's. We birdied one hole! I don't know why we play so bad on this course. Several times today on a par 4 we had our drive 40-80 yds from the green and couldn't get within 30 feet of the hole! The shortest birdie putt we had all day was about 12 feet. The last time we played this scramble we finished 2 over. There's just something about this course I guess....
Click on the sign at the right. You can't read it without englarging it. I just wanted to know if Julie has a sign like this at her course. I don't know where this sign is, but it must be in England because #3 wants to know if you've cooked your husbands tea?

Zombie's on Parade

Mary Lynn and I went to the Zombie Attack on Bardstown Road tonight. It was really hard to decide which pictures to post. The crowd was much bigger than last year, and last year was pretty crowded. Some of the Zombies were crawling in the middle of
Bardstown Road against oncoming traffic. Some were running around yelling, some Zombie killers running around killing Zombies. It was a wild night! The picture in the upper right hand corner is one Mary Lynn wanted me to post. He was standing out in front of Mid-City Mall and M.L. thinks he probably dresses like that all the time and was wondering what was going on tonight with all these people around here.

Bob's Nature Observatory

Hmmm....seems like all I do is post these nature pictures. It seems this time of year every morning when you go outside you walk through a spider web. Those little buggers sure are busy overnight. I almost walked through this one in the backyard when I went out to feed the birds. Luckily the angle was just right and the sun reflected off of it. I went inside and got a water bottle to spray the web so it would show up better on the picture. We really have some big webs show up around the house this time of year. Make sure to click on the picture to get a good view of the web.

Not so bad golf at Iroquois

I played Iroquois GC today. As happens sometime we started on the back nine. I shot a 38 - 40 = 78. Pretty Good, if I do say so myself. I walked the first nine, but I sweated so much I didn't think my body would take walking another nine, so I rented a cart. I've been hotter, I think, on a golf course, but I don't think I've ever sweated so much. It was pouring off me in buckets. Same with the other players. It only cost me $7.50 to rent a cart for 9 holes and it was well worth it.

I can't believe my 78 didn't win me any money. I was beaten out by Ed who shot an 83, with a 16 stroke handicap to my 10 stroke handicap. Oh well, it was a moral victory.

I hit 13 of 18 Greens in regulation (GIR) today. I've never really kept track of that but I have to believe that is a record for me. I've had trouble all summer hitting my 7 and 9 wood. Consistently hitting them off the toe and to the right. I think I have corrected it. So simple. I'm standing just a little bit closer to the ball. Duh! Why it took my so long to figure that out I don't know.

Cicada Revisited....

I was putting my golf clubs in the basement when I got home today and I saw this on the door. The shell is still there from the other day and I think Mr. Cicada was visiting. Mary Lynn wants to know how I know it's the same one. Well, I remember what his face looked like. No two cicada's look the same.

Golf at Shawnee GC Round 40 for the year!

Played my usual Tuesday Golf at Shawnee GC today. Walked 18 as usual. Much better weather to walk in today, but it was still a little hot on the back nine. I shot a 38 - 43 = 81. Probably the worst score I could shoot. Not low enough to win and not high enough to raise my handicap. I did play with the same ball for 18 holes. I don't do that very often. Oh, I guess I'd better mention that J. R. shot an 83 in case he reads this. With his 16 or 17 handicap it might win him some money.

Emerging Cicada

I was taking my golf clubs to the car going out the basement door when I noticed this Cicada emerging from its body shell. I've seen many of the shells around the outside of the house but this is the first one I've seen actually in the process of moving! It was worth a picture.

Golf at Oxmoor Country Club

I played Oxmoor CC Golf Course yesterday with Brian, Matt, and Randy. Matt and I partnered up and took on Brian and Randy. We played team total score, match play. We took and early lead on the front nine but allowed them to tie us up after 9. We lost hole #10, but from then on we never looked back. I drained some good putts and the hole started looking like the one on the right. Matt and I ended up winning 4 up. I shot a 46 - 41 = 87. Matt shot and 87, Brian 83, Randy 96. I took a '9' on hole #10 but still shot a 41 on the backside. This was round #39 for the year.

I missed Erin's Birthday Party

While working the golf tournament Sunday I missed Erin's Birthday Party at the Park. I've already decided I'm not working the golf tournament next year so I can attend the party no matter what day it's scheduled. I had to post these two pictures. On the left, besides Erin being so cute, how about that cake? Helga made that and I think it looks great! So, the picture on the left was so all my faithful readers who couldn't attend the party could see how nice the cake was. The picture on the right, well, I thought Judy would like to see it.

Weekend at Fuzzy's

This past weekend I was a Volunteer Marshall at Fuzzy Zoeller's "Wolf Challenge" Golf Tournament. My responsibility was Crowd Control between #11 green and #12 Tee Box. Sunday the "Crowds" never exceeded 8-10 people at any given time in our area. I worked with 3 other marshalls, J. R. Harris, "Carolina Steve" Wilson, and Steve Stine. Monday, the crowd followed the 4 pro players playing wolf. The 4 pros were, Fuzzy, Boo Weekley, Rocco Mediate, and John Daly. We had nothing to do but sit until that group got to our hole. But, they had so much security and marshall's with them that when they came through the Security People kind of pushed us aside and said "We'll handle it". So, it was fun but I really didn't have a lot to do.

One of the highlights of the weekend was Sunday when I was getting off the shuttle bus at the IUS parking lot. The guy behind me said "Hey, are you Bob Tabler?" and I turned around and met Biggs Tabler. He'd seen my name on my small cooler I was carrying. Many times during my life I've been asked if I was kin to Biggs Tabler, and I'd never met him. We talked awhile then parted. Having been asked so many times in my life, I'm glad I finally got to meet Biggs Tabler.

5th Annual Zombie Attack is coming...

According to my son Mark's Facebook entry Saturday, August 29th, at 8:29 p.m. the 5th annual Zombie Attack will occur on Bardstown Road. The attack begins on Bardstown Road just a block south of Eastern Parkway and ends at Bearno's Pizza after about a 4 block march to the North. Mary Lynn and I attended last year and plan on having a ringside seat again this year. We both found it amazing how many people want to dress up like zombies just to make this walk. One more Louisville event keeping this city weird!

Iroquois GC Round 38 for the Year!

I played Iroquois GC today. It was a rough round but not as rough as these guys are having it.
We played the back nine first again. So my best nine was on the easiest side. I shot a 39 - 44 = 83. Better than Tuesday, but still leaves room for a lot of improvement. The greens were very fast today, especially for Iroquois. Some of those greens that slant from back to front made for some real slick putts when you were above the hole. Like Sam Snead said,"Some of those putts were so fast I had to hold my putter over the ball and hit it with the shadow." I didn't win any money today. I walked 18 again and was pretty tired when we finished. I'm working my way back!

Once again, more bad golf on Tuesday

I played Shawnee GC today. Brian was off work so he joined the 'Old Guys' on the course. I played terrible. I seemed to have lost it in the past week or so. I must have topped 6 or 7 shots today. I shot a 44 - 46 = 90 from the yellow (senior tees). Brian shot a 38 - 37 = 75 from the white tees. I'm thinking of taking a week off to see it it helps me get the 'feel' back. I did walk the 18 today and it was hot. I feel good about being able to walk 18 holes in this weather and live to tell about it. I guess that's something. This was round #37 for the Year. You'd think I would just keep getting better. But I've learned over the years that golf is a game of ebb and flows, ups and downs. As the 'Terminator' says, "I'll be back"!.

What's going on with these growth steroids I've been taking...

I've been taking these OTC pills to make me taller, but I forgot to read up on the side effects.

Golf at Charlie Vettiner GC Saturday

I played Charlie Vettiner GC today for round 36 of the year. Didn't play well at all on the back nine. Played pretty well on the front other than hole #6, which I hit a drive all of about 10 yards. I shot a 42 - 49 = 91. My poor back nine consisted of an 8 on #14 with a greenside bunker shot hit thin and out of bounds. It was fun, and I won all their money anyway playing Bingo, Bango, Bongo. If I could just play 18 holes having nothing more than a bogey. That's my goal.

Death of a Tree

I watched them take a tree down across the street today. It was a large tree, very bushy, and it took them all day. After watching them awhile, after all the bushy branches were removed, I decided I'd better take pictures and make this a blog entry. People often ask me what I do now that I'm retired. Well, kinda stuff like this.

I play a little golf. Spend some time with my grandaughters, go for walks, and pretty much do anything else I darn well please! This was one of them. It was nice.

Local News Flash...

I tried to find a picture to put with this post, but after extensive checking of all the news station photos, I've come up emtpy.
One of the stories I saw on the news last Tuesday about the high water was a story of an 'elderly Gentleman' who went around some barracades and drove into standing water. This elderly Gentleman's car started floating and he had to be rescued by MSD personnel who were on site. The photo showed his car, as the water receded, sitting on top of a fire hydrant. Some of you may recall this story, or picture. Well, I found out today that the "Elderly Gentleman" involved was none other than our neighbor directly across the street in the white house, Mr. Judson Gibb.

Round 35 FTY at Iroquois GC

Played Iroquois GC today. We played the back nine first. I shot a 41 - 45 = 86. I thought I really played terrible. I'd been chipping and putting very well but today it left me. I even chunked a couple of short chips and left them short of the green. My score seems pretty good for feeling like I played so bad, so I guess that's pretty good. (To shoot an 86 playing terrible). I'm playing Saturday morning with Mark Wagner at Charlie Vettener GC. I hope my short game comes back home or it's going to be a long day. I'm not sure he'll let me play from the Senior Tees.

Our trip down Main Street

Mary Lynn and I went to the Fontaine Ferry Exhibit Sunday down on Main Street. For several blocks around the Louisville Slugger Museum these plaques were located at various intervals on Main Street. All Hall of Fame Ballplayers. I don't know how many there are, but I saw more than a dozen. I guess it's the 'Walk of Fame' leading to the Slugger Museum. I'd never heard about these being there. They're kinda neat.

Keeping Louisville Weird

Mary Lynn and I couldn't resist getting a picture of this car parked on Rosewood Ave. just a couple of blocks from our house. Kim seemed to think there was a 'Decorated Car Contest', or 'Art Car Contest', or something on that order in Louisville this week and I would guess this is one of the entries. Anyway, this is helping in the 'Keep Louisville Weird' movement. As you can see through the windshield, decorations weren't just limited to the outside.

It was a Flood of Biblical Proportions

I didn't get the word until almost 10 a.m. this morning that this was the 'Big One'. Luckily I've been trapping the animals for several months now. I gathered all the squirrels, chipmunks, raccoons and neighborhood cats, Male and Female, and loaded them onto the Ark. The water was already very high, but most of my animals have had extensive swimming lessons and this made for easier loading on the Ark. I plan on being afloat for a few days and will look for either the tip of Hogan Fountain's Pavilian, or lookout point at Iroquois Park. See you when the water goes down!

Our House Gets Cleaned

We had our house professionally cleaned today. The workers were very thorough. I highly recommend them. The only problem we had with them was that they complained about the amount of dust they had to get up.

Geography Class

Erin took the time while visiting today to give Mimi a Geography lesson. It took a lot of patience from Erin and to help Mimi work this map of the United States. Mimi repeatedly tried to put the Carolinas on the West Coast. Erin finally had to resort to pointing out pieces to her and telling her to "Try it over here".
